After spending the last couple weeks under a motorcycle covered in oil waiting for new parts I finally managed to get the bike working. It looks like the exhaust cam decompression unit on the bike is slightly damaged but the cams look good and everything else seems to work fine. I went out to the mountains to see how the bike would perform on a 500km journey and everything is looking fine. I will be continuing the trip out west to British Columbia then down to Bend Oregon where I have a mechanic waiting to do a complete engine rebuild and re-bore my cylinder for some extra power in the engine. After being stuck for the last 3 weeks in Calgary I am very excited to me back on two wheels continuing my journey through the mountains. A part of me is a bit sceptical about trekking through the mountains with a damaged bike since the elevation climbs and twisty roads will put some unnecessary strain on the bike, however a larger part of me is just happy to be back on the road.
The mountains here in Alberta are amazing to ride in, filled with picturesque landscapes and twisty roads. I can’t wait to see the beauty that remains past the BC border. The test ride today was a bit stressful as I didn’t know how the bike would handle the distance and being forced to keep an ear on the engine for strange noises was exhausting after 5 hours of riding. Since I was stressed out about the bikes performance I didn’t have much desire to stop and take photos road side, however I got a few snapshots in when I was doing road side diagnostics and stopped for a lunch break.
