It was a tough decision between Regina and Saskatoon but Regina has won on the place to stay. I decided to stay at an international youth hostel however it’s one of the few international hostels that allow local residents to stay so it resembles more of a homeless shelter than a hostel, which makes me happy I paid for the private room instead of the bunk which I generally do.
The drive down seems to have gotten flatter and the posted speed limit has risen to 110km/hr which I initially though would be a problem but the bikes aerodynamics and loading can handle the increased speed very well. After the pot hole ridden roads of Winnipeg the roads of Saskatchewan are like driving on a cloud. The scenery is about the same but crossing a new border and a new time zone always feels like progress has been made.
While in Regina I explored the local park and the museum, both were free to see so I figured it would be a good way to see what Regina has to offer. I wouldn’t go so far as to say Regina is boring but the main strip on a Friday night resembled a ghost town. While in the park I stumbled into a junior boat racing competition which was fun to watch and the museum although free was better than most mandatory admission museums.
Regina is however home to a local brew pub called Bushwakkers, which has some of the best beer I’ve ever tasted. Tonight I will be focused on doing some prep work and having an early morning to be in Calgary at a decent time.
